EgyptAir: Flight delay and compensation – What you need to know to claim
Submit your claim and pocket up to 600 euros
Delayed flights, a phenomenon likely to significantly disrupt the itineraries of passengers traveling with EgyptAir, but in this difficult situation lies a glimmer of hope: the prospect of receiving financial compensation.
Flight delays are an inevitable reality of air travel, resulting from various factors such as weather conditions, technical problems, or air congestion.
When an EgyptAir flight is delayed, the company immediately takes measures in accordance with international standards and European legislation, where applicable, to minimize the inconvenience experienced by passengers.
As soon as possible, the Egyptian company communicates to its customers information relating to the delay and its reasons. Depending on the length of the wait, passengers benefit from appropriate support, including the provision of drinks, food and, where applicable, accommodation as well as transport from the airport to this last.
In Europe, plane delays are compensable
What’s also good is that passengers’ rights are not limited to the airport grounds where travelers are picked up by their airline. In the event of significant delays, travelers have the possibility of claiming lump sum compensation.
European standards, such as those defined by EU Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004, provide that passengers affected by such delays (3 hours or more) are entitled to financial compensation. To calculate the amount due, we take into account the distance traveled and the delay time noted when the plane lands:
250 euros for short distance flights, up to 1500 kilometers. This generally concerns domestic flights or between close destinations within Europe.
400 euros for medium distance flights, which are those exceeding 1500 kilometers within the European Union and for all other flights between 1500 and 3500 kilometers. This category includes longer intra-European flights as well as some short international flights outside Europe.
600 euros for long-distance flights, those exceeding 3,500 kilometers. These flights typically include intercontinental journeys.
Take the reins of your compensation
The force majeure clause explained
Under international standards governing the airline industry, EgyptAir, as well as other carriers, may find itself in situations where it does not have an obligation to compensate passengers affected by flight delays or cancellations. These exceptions are attributed to extraordinary circumstances.
In the panorama of exceptions, elements such as storms of exceptional intensity or sky control orders dictated by regulatory powers figure prominently. When such anomalies, outside the company’s scope of action, lead to complications, EgyptAir is freed from the commitment to financially compensate its travelers. This exemption is based on the principle that the carrier has deployed an arsenal of preventive measures to circumvent these unforeseen obstacles as much as possible.
Claiming compensation for delayed flight: A legal labyrinth
Faced with complicated procedures and obstacles posed by airlines, a large number of travelers choose to abandon their quest for justice, discouraged by the difficulty and length of the claims process. The prospect of undertaking back-breaking procedures to obtain compensation discourages them from continuing.
However, the emergence of entities providing targeted legal advice to air travelers has radically changed the situation. Thanks to their know-how, these experts have made it easier for travelers to access complaints, offering them less restrictive solutions to obtain compensation.
Use the services of experts: No financial loss to suffer
An additional argument for requesting the assistance of experts is that their fees are taken only from the compensation obtained.
